Greetings one and all,
I'm Nathan Dyer, your humble Webmaster and Membership Director, I am currently in my 3rd year of study towards a Mechatronic Engineering degree at Curtin.
In my life before being a university student I have
- Been a bum - Unemployed, broke and living in my car... Interesting times
- Travelled most of Western Australia - Tom Price, Mount Newman, Coral Bay. Pinnacles, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Margs, Wave Rock and places in between.
- Worked as
- Night Shift at Ezy Plus - I met alot of interesting people from there
- Door to door sales - It's amazing how many people will by $30 bits of cardboard
- Computer Programmer - Writing control applications for LED signs, you have seen some of them at Curtin
- Delivering Newspapers - You know how your newspaper come nicely rolled up in a bit of plastic, well I was one of the people that rolled them up, using a machine
- IT Support - Provided phone and on-site support to some of the major hotels in Perth
- Bakers Assistant, Trolley Boy, Kitchen Hand
- Travelled over seas a few times - Christmas Island and Jakarta
- Moved house on average once every 12 months
- Owned, Rode, Rebuilt and Repaired a NSR250 Motorbike - It smelt like a lawnmower but it went like a rocket
I decided to study Mechatronics when I was working as a programmer as the workplace made me realise that in order to actually get anywhere I would need a degree. I wanted to do Mechatronics when I originally left high school (in 1998!) and I spent 2005 working and doing night school so I could get in.
My hobbies include cooking, electronics, camping, making (and drinking) home-brew beer, automotive maintenance and enjoying music. Currently for employment I run a business providing IT Support and Computer parts to small and medium businesses, as well as people.
At the end of my degree I hope to work designing and building control and automation systems in Australia and around the world, as well as robotic systems of all kinds.
